My Love My Hero
Kian was the last person Lovelle wished to cross path ever again. She hated him… Hated him so much for ruining her first love and betray her trust. They were once bestfriends but now mortal enemies.
But fate played a big joke on her. She fell in love with the unlikeliest man on the planet -Kian. When she thought that she already recovered from the pain of the past, came Mart, her ex-boyfriend. And once again, they were hurled into a whirlwind of mess as old as eight years ago.
“DAMN!” Holy shit, but she’s stuck!
Ano ngayon ang gagawin niya? Wala siyang alam sa pagmemekaniko.
Her already crumpled face gained more creases as she irritatingly gazed at her car.
She cursed silently. Nobody cared to improve the always rough road of Santa Barbara. Five years ago, the road was narrow and dusty in summer, lubak-lubak naman tuwing tag-ulan.
And she was driving on the same road as if no years have passed. In fact, it even worsened, she angrily thought.
Damn those trashy politicians in her hometown! Of course, she knew nothing aside from driving, what would she expect?
She stole a brief glance at her wristwatch. It was five o’clock in the afternoon. And to add more to her dilemma, she was wearing high heeled boots!
She was a famous ramp and print ad model here and abroad.
She silently prayed for a private vehicle to come her way. That was her only hope else she had no other choice but to drag her ass home walking in high heeled boots!
And she was in a province, kung saan maagang umuuwi at natutulog ang mga tao.
She shouted a harsh curse when she discovered it was turned off.
Darn! But she forgot to charge her cellphone all day long. She tried to turn it on but it suddenly shut down. Battery empty.
Now, this is what you call a bad day! She combed her raven black hair with her wobbling fingers. Inabot ang pakete ng chewing gum sa dashboard ng sasakyan, kumuha ng tatlong piraso and chewed the gum hardly inside her mouth, releasing the growing tension in her nerves.
Ten minutes passed in a blur. Darkness started to creep the always peaceful town of Santa Barbara. The sound of night animals and crickets filled her ears, making her feel really worried.
Well, maybe she needed to start walking. She was very frustrated but she had no other choice.
Her family was not expecting her to come home today. She now regretted that she went home ahead on time. Tapos ay nalobat pa ang cp niya.
She inhaled sharply habang pinapakalma ang sarili. Her fashion statement was becoming an ordeal as of the moment.
“Oh thank God!” She shouted in joy.
She badly needed this opportunity and hell may freeze but she won’t allow it to pass her way!
She felt like a maiden in distress and that she had encountered her knight in shining armour!
But the relief in her face was erased in an instant ng mapagsino ang driver ng pickup.
Isang kababata at ex-bestfriend. Her face hardened like igneous rock. She instantly turned her back at the car.
She will gladly walk more than ever and she did not care even if she will encounter the most notorious incident on the road!
What she had just encountered was nothing but the most abominable creature in the whole universe and she wanted to puke in anger.
“Lovelle!” His voice was so full and manly.
She was forced to stop walking and glanced back. Her heart suddenly faltered as she saw his face. What entertained her eyes were a very virile male figure and the familiar handsome face. He was taller with a sturdy body and was wearing a white body-hugging tee and faded maong jeans that fitted to his legs like second skin.
Napakurap siya ng ilang beses. Gosh, but the abominable creature changed a lot! She can’t help but notice his physical sleekness and his amazing metamorphosis.
He was not the tall lanky boy that he was five years ago. He was now looking very manly in all angles. She can’t imagine how he managed to acquire this manly look and charisma. Though he was still sporting the same F4 long hair, chinky eyes, aquiline nose and red lips.
Looking at him, she can’t help but fall under his predatoric sex appeal. And he easily pulled that look with pride that she gawked at him for several seconds.
Lalaking-lalaki! Huh! She wanted to vomit at the rotten word. If she had not known him all these years, her eyes will surely deceive her. But then again, she knew him very well. From the tip of his toenails to the root of his hair! Geez, never can he fool her with such manly antic!
But hell, she can’t take her eyes off him! She felt the strange thud in her heart and winced secretly.
He asked while eyes not leaving her face.
She answered him with an uncaring shrug.
“None of your business Kian!” She shouted back habang hindi lumilingon. “Gusto ko lang maglakad.”
His eyebrows cocked.
She stomped her foot on the ground. She looked back at him with a sarcastic glare. She smiled acidly. “Playing a gentleman, huh!?” She mocked. “No use doing that Kian because I damned well knew you’re not a man.”
You are a rotten homosexual who ruined my life and breached our friendship! She must have said that had she not controlled her raging tongue.
His face turned seriously grim. He ground his teeth in anger.
She was enjoying seeth and insult on his face. She saw his jaws moved as he ground his teeth. But he deserved it!
Betrayal and anger swept her again. It was as if she was transported five years back.
She thought time healed the wound but she realized it never was. She felt as if everything was anew. And she wanted to break into tiny bits and pieces again.
Hell, she hated this! She never wanted to feel such mediocre feelings again. But she can’t stop her emotions.
She never think that coming face to face with Kian meant reminiscing the past. The past that she buried and never wished to happen again.
“Lovelle!” His voice hard and rugged. His fist tightened in dismay. He knew she was still angry with him. Oh well, hindi nito masisisi ang kababata.
“Don’t bother anymore Kian.” This time ay kalmado na ang boses niya. “I can manage.
He did not move. His chinky eyes bored to hers. And she found herself staring at him too. Their gazes locked as if there was something that’s holding their eyes together.
She realized that despite of her anger, she dearly missed her bestfriend. But of course, they had been best of friends since time immemorial.
“I’m glad to see you again Love. I missed my best friend for the past years.”
“But of course!” Pauyam na sagot niya. No, she won’t allow him to play with her feelings. Not anymore!
“You did not give me the chance to explain.” He whispered softly. “I could have defended myself.” Sadness crossed his eyes for a moment. “Instead you vehemently threw our friendship away. Matagal kang nawala. But I’m glad you’re back.”
“Yes I’m back.” Her voice hard. She hated their conversation and just wished to disappear like a puff of smoke. “Only because I need to. Ikaw iyon!” The accusation in her voice was like a digging dagger. And how dare he talk about the past in front of her face! Spite him!
“If you just gave me the chance to explain—“
“Huh!” She bitterly cut him off. “Even if you beg for forgiveness, I can’t give that to you at that time Kian. Even until now!” She vehemently stressed out. I trusted you. She blew some air. “But you know, all of those craps happened in the past. It’s been five years. And for our peace of mind, kinalimutan ko na ang mga nangyari. But sad to say I can’t bring back our friendship. Everything’s broken and we can never put back the pieces again. I don’t have any intention to do that.”
“Love…” He whispered huskily. There was sadness in his eyes. And a yearning that was there for five years.
Let’s just forget everything. I have learned to forget your betrayal along with our friendship and I have forgotten you.”
“I’m so sorry Love…” He whispered in forlorn voice. If he can just turn back time he won’t think twice. He hated this. He wanted to win back his bestfriend. The only girl he cared for so many years until now.
“That’s life Kian.” “I can’t trust you anymore.
And after the wedding, muli siyang babalik ng Maynila. She had her job there. Besides, she had the metro as her new world and not Santa Barbara anymore.
“You will stay in Santa Barbara Lovelle.” There was firmness in his voice.
Surely she has no reason to stay in this damned place! Not with Kian around!
“It’s getting dark.
“Why, thank you!” She said the gratitude with deadly sarcasm.
He disregarded her ill statement. Then he grabbed her elbow and ushered her in his pickup.
She flinched secretly as their skin rubbed. Electrifying warmth travelled to her every nerve fiber making her gape in awe. She suddenly felt conscious of his grip. She shook her hand and he let go of her.
“I used to hold you before Lovelle, for Christ sake, don’t act as if nandidiri ka sa hawak ko.”
Nandidiri? Surely hindi iyon ang naramdaman niya. She hated to admit to herself that she was gravely affected by his mere touch. And she was so mortified!
“Kaya kong maglakad Kian. Hindi na kailangang akayin mo ako.” Nauna na siyang lumakad palapit sa pick up. He followed her. She opened the passenger’s seat and slouched on the leather seat.
Her nose basked in a manly scent inside his car. It was an expensive musk. She grinned.
“Anyway, thanks!” Akma niyang bubuksan ang pintuan upang bumaba na when he held her hand and stopped her.
“Goodnight Love,” he stared adoringly at her eyes and smiled.
Lovelle found herself under trance at his stare and boyish smile. For a moment, she was immobilized. Gosh, but her heart made a 360 turn inside her chest!
She silently cursed herself when she got back her wits. He should not affect her like this, this is sheer madness! She shook her head in dismay. But she totally lost her ground when he lowered his head and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.
Her jaw dropped in amazement.
“Just a goodnight kiss Lovelle. Can’t help it. A token for seeing you again after five long years.” His eyes flashed.
She can still feel the aftershock of the kiss kahit nasa labas na siya ng sasakyan nito.
She needed to stay away from Kian.
She was not expecting this. At hindi niya papayagang magmumukhang tanga for entertaining stupid feelings and thoughts to a guy she knew was fake!
Mixed emotions occupied his heart upon seeing his bestfriend again after five long years. He was surprised to see her awhile ago, looking as fabulous and flawless as she ever was in his eyes.
She had blossomed into a very pretty woman. He had seen her in several commercials but seeing her again in person after five long years was entirely different. He had long for the moment that he can see her again. At naganap nga iyon ngayon.
He was so happy. Although he already predicted that she was coming home one of these days at ikakasal nga ang kapatid nito, he was not prepared to feel such joy upon seeing her again. Five years were a torture and he longed for her presence.
She had been his everything. His bestfriend, his partner in crime, his inspiration, the air he breathe and his sweet sunshine.
But now that she was back, he won’t let pass the chance that he can explain to her. That he can settle their differences and win her back. Her friendship was one of the most important things he cherished and he won’t let her get mad of him for eternity.
Lilinisin niya ang pangalan niya dito. Muli niya itong susuyuin. He was willing to do everything just to win her trust back, just to have her back.
Surely, Mart did not deserve her at all!
No, he won’t let that obsessed homo get in the way of his plans again and ruin his life. He will not permit it this time.
That he promise.
He was so absorbed with his own thoughts that he drove passed Lovelle’s car. He stopped and reined his feelings. Then he drove back at where her car was parked.
He abruptly checked the car but with gentleness and preservation.
Five years have passed but he still feels the same way for her.
He just wished that everything will be put back to its proper places now that she was back.
Her eyebrows rose sardonically. What the hell was that homo up to? She never wanted him around her. She can’t bear a sight of him!
No, she did not want him hang out with her. She wanted to shriek in abhorrence at the thought!
She impulsively planned to visit one of her high school friends.
“May pupuntahan ako mamaya Mommy.” She removed the hotdogs in the frying pan at inilagay sa pinggan. “Please tell him I won’t be available should he come this afternoon.”
I’m sure he greatly misses you. He’s your bestfriend. At ikaw, hindi mo ba siya namimiss?”
Her face hardened.
Noon iyon Mommy. Noong hindi niya ako tinraidor. But were now mortal enemies!
Nobody was aware of the tiff between her, Mart and Kian eight years ago.
And besides, he can come back the following days.”
That gayface can disappear anytime so he can’t pester her and her peace of mind anymore!
Her mother cooked fried rice and scrambled egg.
She heaved a sigh when her mother did not pursue the topic.
Her mind was so busy scourging for ideas just to avoid Kian who was now her mortal enemy. She felt like she was on a hot seat and that her life was at bay of destruction.
Oh well, her life was already ruined liked Atlantis and that’s all because of her so trusted bestfriend!
Nagkaphobia na siya sa pakikipagrelasyon at pakikipagkaibigan sa mga lalaki thinking that they will all hurt her. They can’t be trusted.
She has Mart and Kian to prove it.
She did not see her after graduation.
The nerve of this traitor to pay her a visit!
The structure of the treehouse was like a nipa hut in bamboo stilts.
Dolls, cooking wares, and the expensive doll house na niregalo sa kanya ng ina during her 8th birthday. And she used to share those toys with Kian in her younger years.
But she instantly erased it as his betrayal reminded her foolish mind.
She shook her head. “Hindi ko napanood ang pinakalatest.” She loved watching Harry Potter. She can remember she used to wait for its sequel before.
She remembered the first time she watched the movie.
“Gusto mo panoorin natin?” Then he turned on the tv and set it to video mode.
Tahimik lamang siyang naupo sa kama. Kinuha ang isang unan doon at niyakap. She watched him operate the DVD player.
Bigla siyang naconscious. They used to stay inside this treehouse before.
But of course, they were adults now at hindi na mga bata katulad noon.
She saw Daniel Radcliffe, more mature at the last sequel. Ngunit cute pa rin ito in his signature spectacles.
Wala siyang naririnig na ingay kay Kian and she thought he was also busy watching the movie. Her heart suddenly leaped out of her chest. Panic rammed her entire being.
As a defense mechanism, she angrily looked at him. Her eyebrows were almost like one line above her eyes.
Darn, but she needed to do something else this abominable creature will surely get to her nerves! He was looking at her with those penetrating gaze and she felt like hypnotized!
“Don’t mind me Love. Gusto lang kitang titigan. Na miss lang kita ng husto.” He whispered smoothly.
She swallowed hard. She felt like something suddenly blocked her throat and she had difficulty swallowing.
“Stop staring at me Kian.” She hissed. She hated herself even more for acting such lunatic! “Are we going to watch the movie or not? We can stop this and avoid wasting both our time you know. I’m tired and I want to sleep.”
“Don’t you miss the good old times we had before Love?”
“Stop that Kian please…” She closed her eyes in frustration. “I would be the craziest person in the world should I do that.” She was trying to compose herself yet the wrath that she had for him started to consume her again.
“I missed my bestfriend. I want her back.”
Huh! She wanted to laugh in hysterics. Surely, this homo was out of his mind!
“The old Lovelle was gone Kian. There’s no more friendship between the two of us. Matagal ng natapos iyon. And you ended it yourself. So don’t ask for the impossible. So don’t ask for too much.” Her eyes narrowed angrily.
Kian remained silent but he continued looking at her and its getting to piss her off.
He whispered softly after a few minutes.
She forced an acidic smile. From now on, don’t come my way and I will never come your way.”
But she can’t explain why she felt so hurt of his confession. That was what she wanted, right? But for Christ’s sake, why should this confrontation be tear jerker?
She can’t forget how they become best of friends. He had been her world before, her brother, her protector.
Their friendship was the most sacred thing she holds. She thought he felt the same way too. She thought he really value what they have.
But she was dead wrong. He never valued their friendship! He took it for granted! Besides, if he valued their friendship, he won’t betray her trust years ago!
“We can start a new beginning for the two of us.”
“Great! We won’t have any beginning because we already have an ending!”
She stood up and faced him like a roaring tiger. She was already fuming with anger. Plus the fact that she was controlling her stupid tears not to embarrass her, all she wanted to do was to run away from him.
“Let’s start something more special than what we have before Lovelle. I’m sorry to hurt you…”
“Go to hell!” She spat.
The moment she closed the door, tears fell from her eyes. And she cried a river of tears sa kadahilanang hindi malinaw sa kanya.
SHE WAS DRIVING her car fastly in the rough road of Santa Barbara.
Her car was speeding in a performance she liked and from the looks of it, Kian made a great job fixing her Rav 4.
So she owed something to that homo, huh! She shrugged her shoulders with the thought.
She breathed deeply. She can’t find it in Metro Manila.
He was operating the big machinery with ease.
No wonder why he tanned and his body so rip and muscled.
But she found herself mesmerized! He was clean looking and lanky. They own almost half of the land in their town.
He took a clean hanky from his pocket at pinunasan ang pawisang mukha nito at mga kamay habang papalapit sa dalaga.
“Hi Love!” His voice was refreshing.
She released a soft groan of dismay.
“Hi.” Pahinamad na sagot niya.
“Pupunta ka sa bayan?” His voice was casual and conversational.
She obliged to answer his question. Then she looked at him. He got his chinky eyes from his half-Chinese mother. At ang ngayon ay basa na ng pawis na damit ay nakabakat sa dibdib nito, revealing a very muscled chest, narrow waist and ripped abs.
Despite sa pawisang mukha nito, he managed to look so handsome and sexy.
Hah! Lovelle tumigil ka nga! Naloloka ka na naman! Lihim na pinagalitan niya ang sarili.
“I think I need to go now.” She sighed. She needed to stay away from this man at nasisira lamang ang diskarte niya sa buhay.
“See you around Love!” He shouted.
